Full Description
Background: A peer support program is designed to provide support to staff during times of personal and professional distress by pairing individuals with a fellow employee with special training. Successful peer support programs exist in police departments across the country. The Tennessee Corrections Institute (TCI), in collaboration with the Crime and Justice Institute (CJI), is supporting jails in Tennessee that want to bring a peer support program to their staff.  
CJI is a non-profit organization that provides consulting, policy analysis, and research services to improve public safety in communities throughout the country. CJI has partnered with TCI to develop this training for staff who would like to become a peer supporter.

Directions to Location
TCI will sponsor hotel accommodations for correctional staff from any TCI-inspected facility traveling more than 50 miles to the training location. When registering through FTACS, please select the “Hotel Requested” option or contact Shari Scott at Sharon.Scott@tn.gov for East TN.
Reporting Instructions
CJI will deliver this two-day training in person in three different locations across the state (in East, Middle, and West Tennessee). The module will include interactive skill building activities to ensure participants are prepared to fulfill the responsibilities of a peer supporter.
